Teaching Writing in the classroom: A page full of links with articles, tips and lesson plans for teachers. There is also a discussion forum
Creative Journal for Children/Kids Have all the Write Stuff: This is actually a way to order the above-named resources online, but it also has a few suggestions for ways to encourage children to write.
Language Arts Activities: The activities on these pages could be used in the classroom to enhance a creative writing program or sharpen writing skills. The activies are updated throughout the school year.
The Alliance for Computers and Writing: A wealth of resources, support and links for teachers who want to use computers to teach writing.
KidNews Teacher and Parent Forum: Access the Classroom Newspaper Workshop from this site, talk with other teachers about computers and writing, and read articles of interest to teachers who teach these subjects.
Books on Teaching Imaginative Writing: Teachers & Writers Online has compiled this list of excellent classroom resources for teaching writing. The list includes publication information, a short review, and pictures of book covers. It is also possible to order the books through this site.
Help Your Child Learn to Write Well: This online publication by the U.S. Department of Education has many tips on teaching children to write.

Global SchoolNet Foundation projects registry: This site has links to several online writing projects with start-up dates throughout the school year.
The Young Authors Magazine: This site is a project that is part of the Internet Classroom. Teachers may consider participating with their students in this classroom project.

General Resources

The resources listed here can be used for most steps of the writing process, but are difficult to categorize in a particular step. Children who are interested in writing could benefit by having the direction of an adult when using these resources.

Educational Websites for Teachers: Links to many sites, some of which could be useful for class writing projects Also includes Author Links & Info and a Busy Teachers Web Page with a variety of K-12 topics.
Useful Sites for Young Writers: Follow the links here to learn how a book is made, find places to meet authors online, submit stories to online magazines, find writing projects for schools, and get advice on helping children learn to write
Parents and Children together Online: A magazine for families which encourages submissions of stories or articles by children. Writers guidelines and interesting articles for teachers are available. Also includes the Global Campfire Interactive Storytelling.
The Scoop: Children's Book News: Activities for students and teachers, interviews with authors and illustrators and an interactive reading adventure.
Children's Literature Resources for Teachers: Lists links to numerous online Language Arts activities, lesson plans, and Writers in Electronic Residence.
International Kids' Space: A general resource that could apply to many steps in the Writer's Workshop process. Includes a place to share stories, meet other kids, places to explore, and notes for teachers.
KIDLINK: This organization links kids from around the world ages 10 to 15 together for a global dialogue.
Jan's Favorite K-12 Internet Resources for Educators: This is a huge compilation of links to resources including most subject areas, Kids sites, online projects, reference materials, and software.
The Ultimate Children's Internet Sites: Another comprehensive list of sites to support classroom writing projects. This site is useful because it the links are broken into age-appropriate groups.
Ready Reference Using the Internet: Comprehensive alphabetical listing of links to many subject areas, not all of which are appropriate for this age group of students. Teachers could point students to a particular group of reference materials through this page. This age group might be interested in animals, space, natural disasters, sports, and more.
