Topographical Maps
Topographical Maps of the entire route, in gif image format, are avaliable from
Natural Resources Canada at:
http://toporama.cits.rncan.gc.ca/ © Her Majesty the

These maps may be of interest to those seeking more information on the topography
of the area the trail goes though and may be useful in the initial planning
of a trip to the area, but these maps will prove to be of little value once
on the trail as compared to those in the book.
Direct links to the maps covering the Kettle Valley Railway are provided below.
Each map is approximately 400 - 600 kb in size.
The abandoned railway trail is shown on these topomaps as a dark black dashed
line as shown in the example below.

Calibration Files
The geographical calibration files for the above maps can be found here: KVRcal.zip

The map calibration files must be extracted into the same directory as the map
file/s.
These calibration files in conjunction with the map files can be used in such
programs as Oziexplorer, GPS Trackmaker, GPSMapEdit, Global Mapper and others.
Oziexplorer Works only
in the paid and trial versions of Oziexplorer. Load the Oziexplorer calibration
file (ie: 082e02.map) and the program will load the corresponding map image.
Problems/limitations: Projection is limited to geographic, resulting in some
horizontal distortion. Only one map can be loaded at a time.
GPS Trackmaker Load the map
image (ie: 082e02.gif) and the program will also load the corresponding calibration
file (ie: 082e02.gfw). Can load more then one map at a time. Projection is Mercator
so map does not suffer from distortions.
GPSMapEdit Load the
Oziexplorer calibration file (ie: 082e02.map) and the program will load the
corresponding map image. Can load more then one map at a time. Projection is
Mercator so map does not suffer from distortions. Great image quality compared
to others.
Global Mapper Load
the map image (ie: 082e02.gif) and the program will also load the corresponding
calibration file (ie: 082e02.gfw). Can load more then one map at a time. Projection
can be changed to just about any know projection. Great for changing file formats
and projections.
